Planning for Next Year

This is the time of year when we work on our budget and staffing plan for next year. It is quite helpful to us to have a picture of enrollment that is as accurate as possible. If you know anyone who is intending to register in any grade at Haysboro School for next year, please encourage them to contact us as soon as possible.

Sharing Back | School Planning

Our school planning engagement occurred between March 13 and March 31. We provided parents with the opportunity to share their thoughts through a school council meeting and an online survey. We did not receive any responses on our online survey. For this reason, we cannot share the survey results on our website.

Below you will find links to results from the discussion at our school council meeting.

·                     Meeting evaluation summary (link to evaluation summary report  after it is posted on the website)

We encourage your participation in future engagement initiatives. Your input is important to us, and we know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together.

Plant Profile: Saskatoon (Amelancier alnifolia)

Grown on a small shrub or tree, up to 7m tall, the Saskatoon has rounded toothed leaves and clusters of small white flowers from April to July. The berries, often compared to blueberries or huckleberries, begin red and turn dark blue/purple around early August. Found on prairies, hillsides and dry open woods across Canada, it can also be found in our own Dreamcatcher Garden.

The Saskatoon is extremely important to many indigenous groups in Canada. Berries were eaten fresh as well as harvested in large quantities and dried or mashed and made into cakes for consumption during winter. Saskatoons are also the main berry to mix with meat and fat to make pemmican. Saskatoon Branches and stems were also a favourite material for making arrows, spears and pipe stems. Lastly, the Iroquois also used the appearance of saskatoon blooms to mark when it was time to plant corn. Today saskatoons are used in pies, muffins, pancakes, jams, jellies and syrups.

Parking Lot and Street Safety

A heartfelt thank you to those families who have adapted their street safety habits to model safe behaviour for our students. We know it may take a few extra moments, but your efforts are noticed and appreciated.

A gentle reminder that as with all schools, the parking lot is not for student drop off or pickup.

Thank you in advance for parking on the street and walking your child to the school.
