Hello Haysboro Families!

Please see below for our weekly updates.

Clothing and Weather

As we move into the colder months, we want to remind you that students will go outside daily unless it is extremely cold or wet. Thank you in advance for ensuring that your Haysboro School student arrives with clothing appropriate for the weather. We would also recommend that families consider keeping extra clothing in student backpacks for those days when it's a bit warmer and the melting snow makes their clothes wet.

Fun Lunch

Haysboro School Council is pleased to continue to offer monthly fun lunches through Healthy Hunger for the new school year.  Proceeds from fun lunches are directed back to the School Council account to support initiatives like student experiences, field trips, etc.

Meals will be delivered at lunchtime to students in grade 1-6 and Kindergarten students who attend Maple Roots after school program.

If you would like to participate, you can register with Healthy Hunger if you haven't already through the following link: https://healthyhunger.ca/parent-help

The next fun lunch is Boston Pizza on January 27. The order deadline is January 22.

Parking lot

A gentle reminder that our school parking lot is fully assigned to staff in the school and the associated offices. While a spot may be open during the day, that staff member may be returning at any time. Additionally, for the safety of people who may be walking through the parking lot and the vehicles inside, we need to keep traffic to a minimum. If you are dropping off, picking up or coming in to ask a question, we ask that you park on the street (watch out for the bus zone!) and walk into our building. Thank you very much for your support.

Focus Friday

As many of you may know, we run Focus Friday with our students almost every week for 45 minutes. It's an opportunity to participate in different activities and learn skills in a different way, in a group of students from Grades 1-6 for 4 sessions. Part of this learning is focused on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and we tie this learning back to our daily work with students. In our first round, we worked on identifying and naming emotions/how we are felling at different times of the day. Many students told us today that they noticed their feelings change during the day and that sometimes the word we use isn't actually an accurate word (Eg. Are you tired, not awake, calm, etc. or are you Angry, frustrated, worried, etc).  This is part of self-awareness. During this round, we are discussing self-management. How do we respond to what we are feeling? What choices do we make and when? Why could one strategy help us in one scenario but not in another?  Students will continue to discuss on focus on this work throughout their weeks in their homerooms as we work together to improve our knowledge and skills around self-awareness and self-management.

MRU Students

We are fortunate to have a strong partnership with Mount Royal University's Teacher Education program. There will be several first and fourth (final) year student teachers in the school, growing their skills with our staff as they prepare to become educators in the future. They will be with us for several months, depending on where they are in their program. We are grateful to our own students for doing such an excellent job making them feel welcome and included in our community.
