Hello Haysboro Families!
Please see below for our weekly updates.
Trickster Residency
We’re excited to share that our Trickster Theatre Residency performances are coming up! All performances will be on the evening of Thursday, February 5. To help our evening run smoothly, each class has been assigned to one of two performance times. We have made every effort to schedule siblings together; however, in some cases siblings may be performing at different times. RSVP letters with specific performance and arrival times were sent home and we appreciate everyone returning the form by Monday so we can plan for audience members.
We’d also love some extra help during the residency week—if you have a current security clearance and a bit of time to spare, please consider signing up to volunteer here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508044AAAA62BAAF94-61724732-trickster
We can’t wait to celebrate this creative experience with you!
Elder Shirley
Elder Shirley visited our school once again, bringing her warmth, wisdom, and her well‑loved stuffed bear, Lemon, whom the students always adore. She spoke about the importance of the circle as a symbol of respect, gratitude, and community, reminding students how these teachings help guide our relationships with one another. Elder Shirley shared stories about Napi and creation, offering insight into Blackfoot traditions, and she explained the structure of the Tipi and the meanings behind the paintings on its canvas. We are so grateful she spent the time with us, and the students are already excited to welcome her back when she returns in March.
Clothing and Weather
As we move into the colder months, we want to remind you that students will go outside daily unless it is extremely cold or wet. Thank you in advance for ensuring that your Haysboro School student arrives with clothing appropriate for the weather. We would also recommend that families consider keeping extra clothing in student backpacks for those days when it's a bit warmer and the melting snow makes their clothes wet.
Fun Lunch
Haysboro School Council is pleased to continue to offer monthly fun lunches through Healthy Hunger for the new school year. Proceeds from fun lunches are directed back to the School Council account to support initiatives like student experiences, field trips, etc.
Meals will be delivered at lunchtime to students in grade 1-6 and Kindergarten students who attend Maple Roots after school program.
If you would like to participate, you can register with Healthy Hunger if you haven't already through the following link: https://healthyhunger.ca/parent-help
The next fun lunch is Boston Pizza on January 27. The deadline to order for this fun lunch has passed.
Parking lot
A gentle reminder that our school parking lot is fully assigned to staff in the school and the associated offices. While a spot may be open during the day, that staff member may be returning at any time. Additionally, for the safety of people who may be walking through the parking lot and the vehicles inside, we need to keep traffic to a minimum. If you are dropping off, picking up or coming in to ask a question, we ask that you park on the street (watch out for the bus zone!) and walk into our building. Thank you very much for your support.
Cell Phones and Smart Devices
Now is a good time to remind everyone that as of last year, Ministerial Order 014/2024 has been in place and sets expectations for the use/storage of Cell Phones and other smart devices (Eg. Watches) in Alberta schools. Our school uses the CBE's "Away for the Day" process that requires student devices to be powered off and stored in backpacks or jackets from the beginning of the day until the end of the day (including recess and lunch unless a student goes home for lunch).
Should a student or parent need to communicate, this must be done through the school office or classroom phone as appropriate. Safety and appropriate storage of any device is the responsibility of the student. Thank you very much for your support in ensuring that your children are aware of this and that they have an appropriate plan for storing any devices that they bring to school.
