Hello Haysboro Families!

Please see below for our weekly updates!

Volunteers

As many families have noticed (or soon will), we have several field trips planned in the near future across several different grades. Thank you to those who have offered to volunteer in response to letters that have already come home. If you think you might be interested in volunteering soon or in the future, please contact Ms. Gauthier to confirm that you have a valid police clearance on file.

Thank You School Council!

Thank you to School Council and all of the families who contributed to a warm dinner and snacks for our teachers during conferences this week!  We really appreciate all that our families do for this wonderful community!

Fun Lunches

Haysboro School council is pleased to continue to offer fun lunches once a month for all interested students in grade 1-6 as well as kindergarten students who stay at Maple Roots for lunch.  Orders may be made online through Healthy Hunger and are available for up to 5 days before the event.  Please register through the link provided: https://healthyhunger.ca/parent-help

Lunches are delivered to the school and served at lunch time, proceeds from fun lunches are directed back to school improvement, experiences and field trips.

Upcoming Fun Lunches:

April 15 - Little Caesars (Pizza), ordering until April 10

May 13 - Cedars Deli (Shawarma/donair), ordering until May 8

Thank you all of our wonderful volunteers and School Council for supporting Fun Lunches and many other activities that happen at Haysboro School throughout the year!

Learn and Share | School Planning

We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why we’ll be sharing information about school planning and asking you to share your perspectives.

During this engagement, you will have the opportunity to:

1. Learn About

- School planning, which includes the school development plan, school budget and school fees

- How the school development plan sets the overall focus and direction for a school to improve student learning outcomes

- How the school budget provides funding to implement our school development plan

- School fees and why they are necessary

2. Participate

- Share your perspectives through an online survey open from March 14 to March 31. Watch this short video to learn about the planning work schools do to improve and support student learning

Please click on the link below to open the survey. Please also note the attached document for information about translating the survey to other languages.

Community Walks

As the weather warms up, you can expect that most classes will be spending more time outside. If a class or group is going off of school property, you will receive an email notification. Please watch for details in these messages, especially if you might need to pick your child up during school hours.

Artist Residency - Yellow Steps & Jenn Doeve

We are excited that we have our residency with Yellow Steps beginning on April 4 when we are back from Spring Break. Jenn Doeve is working with teachers and students to develop place-based educational opportunities. This means that students will be outside and in our community learning from the various places that are important to the community of Haysboro. The community walks that all the students have been involved in are directly related to this residency. Please continue to watch for emails from your child's teacher about the times your child is walking in the community on these place based learning opportunities.

School Conferences

Conferences will be held on March 20 and 21, just before Spring Break. They are an additional opportunity to discuss student learning and progress. Both of these days are currently scheduled to be held as on-line meetings. Further information on this can be found here (https://cbe.ab.ca/news-centre/Labour-Action/Documents/Parent-Teacher-Conferences-03-03-25.pdf).

Parking Lot and Street Safety

A heartfelt thank you to those families who have adapted their street safety habits to model safe behaviour for our students. We know it may take a few extra moments, but your efforts are noticed and appreciated.

A gentle reminder that as with all schools, the parking lot is not for student drop off or pickup.

Thank you in advance for parking on the street and walking your child to the school.

Clothing and Weather

As our weather warms up, our field and walking areas in the community can be slippery or have large puddles. We would recommend sending an extra pair of socks in your child’s backpack in case they get wet. We do ask students to stay away from and out of puddles but for some students, they are very hard to resist.

Important Dates:

March 20 – Parent/Teacher Conferences – Evening

March 21 – Parent/Teacher Conferences – AM (No School for Students)

March 22 - March 30 – Spring Break

March 31 – Classes Resume

Have a great weekend,
Erin Bennett and Andrea Westine
