Health & Wellness at the CBE

At the CBE, we believe in a whole school approach to health and wellness. We call this our Comprehensive School Health (CSH) approach. CSH is about healthy eating, active living, supportive social environments and positive mental health. As a system, we focus on the following four areas: healthy eating; healthy relationships; physical activity; and positive mental health. Each school creates its own approach and goals for health and wellness.

School Health Nurse

If your child becomes ill during school hours we will contact you (please keep your list of emergency numbers up-to-date). Our health nurse visits our school weekly. If you have any questions regarding your child’s health (i.e. is my child’s chicken pox contagious, can I send him to school?) You can contact a health nurse at the Haysboro Health Clinic at 403- 944-7179.

Learn more about other health concerns visit our Illness and Medical page.

Daily Physical Activity

For safety reasons, we ask that all students have comfortable, non-slip indoor and outdoor footwear as they will participate in both indoor and outdoor physical activities. Slip on shoes and very loose footwear present safety hazards for students when running, jumping and participating in other activities.

Recess

Students in Grades 1-6 have recess time each day. This time provides students with an opportunity to play outside, weather permitting, and have a fresh air break daily.  A lunch hour recess also occurs between 12:00pm and 12:20pm  and 12:22 pm and 12:43 each day and teachers often take students for a "natural break" in the afternoon.
