Parking Lot Signs

Some of you may have noticed new signs in our staff parking lot.

While we have shared through our weekly messages that the staff parking lot is not for student pick-up/drop-off, this has continued to happen. We're sure that everyone is as careful as possible when they enter the parking lot; we still ask that you park on the street.

This is important to ensure that people who are walking (staff and students) are safe and that parked vehicles are safe. We have unfortunately had a staff member sustain damage to their vehicle recently and we are not able to identify who the other driver was. As all parking stalls in the parking lot are assigned (there are no open stalls, even if it looks like it at times) and there is a clear need for safety, we have added these signs to the parking lot as a reminder.

Thank you very much for your support in choosing safety over convenience.

Planning for Next Year - Classes and Teachers

This is the time of year that schools begin to get questions about classes and teachers for next year. We could write a novel to share all of the relevant information but instead, we will share some basics here and invite anyone who has further questions to contact us directly.

  • When we create class lists, staff take multiple, significant factors for entire grades of students, into account (Eg. Learning needs, language needs, personalities, learning styles, etc). This is a long and detailed process that usually requires staff to come back to the lists multiple times. Typically, each grade grouping gets between 3 and 8 hours of attention, from a variety of teachers, depending on various factors. This is again considered as we attach teachers to classes.
  • We have a limited number of classrooms where we can place students which increases the challenge of trying to meet all needs.
  • Students come and go over the summer so lists may need to be adjusted or totally redone in August.
  • One of the factors that we typically get questions about is friends. To be brief, close friends are important to have, but are not always great for optimal learning. We look to ensure that every student has others that they are familiar with, get along with, and can learn well with. Sometimes this is a very close friend, sometimes it is not. We do not actively break up friendships, but it is only one of many factors. We provide opportunities through recess, school activities and Focus Friday for students to have the chance to connect with any of their "besties" who aren't in their class. Learning and working with different people is an important skill to develop.
  • Staffing cycles happen over the last few months of the school year. At this time, schools are unable to fully determine which teachers will remain and who will come in.
  • Up until late August, changes in staff could lead to changes in grade assignment. Changes in the school population could lead to different grade configurations.

What this all means... Is that we ask for your trust as we build classes. Our focus is to create as optimal a learning environment as possible for ALL of our students. We work hard to know our students, your children, as people and as learners and do our best to try to balance as many factors as possible. Our goal is to create conditions where all students have the opportunity to enjoy learning as much as possible.

To make this happen, we are not able to honor specific friend or teacher requests. However, if there is any documented medical/learning information that we do not currently have, that we should know about as we build class groupings, please forward that to us no later than 12 pm, May 29. We will do our best to consider that information as part of the bigger picture.

You will receive communication from your new teacher in late August as they welcome your child to their class and share important information for the first days of school.

Thank you for your support, trust and understanding in this process.

Bikes and Scooters

We are very excited for the return of warmer weather and with that, we know that some students might be riding their bikes or scooters to school.  We would like to remind everyone that it's always best to bring a lock for your bike/scooter. At the start and end of the day, while other students are outside the school, we are asking that bikes/scooters be walked to the sidewalk before being ridden to reduce the risk of a collision.

Kindergarten Registration Open

Registration for Kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year is now open. When we plan staffing and class configurations, it is incredibly helpful to have as clear a picture as possible around student numbers.

If you know of anyone who is planning to register in our wonderful school (kindergarten or otherwise), please encourage them to do so as soon as possible! If there are any questions or if support is required, we are more than happy to chat with families. Please encourage them to call the school office!

Thank you to everyone who tells us that they are sharing positive messages about Haysboro School with their friends. You are an important reason why our little school continues to grow!
