Hello Haysboro Families!
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year!
It has been a fantastic week getting to know our new class groupings and we have seen so many smiles, new friendships and great stories from the summer! We are excited to see all of the amazing learning that will come with this new year!
If you're new to Haysboro, you should know that we will send out a message like this every week so that we can share important updates and information that you may find helpful. Classes will also send out a weekly message that shares some news from the students. Please make an effort to attend to the "important dates" sections in both messages. If there are class specific dates, we may not always have them in the general message to avoid confusion for families in other grades.
Please see below for some additional information as we start the year:
Forms
We are sending home several forms that require your attention. You will also have received an email reminder from the CBE about annual forms that also require your attention. We have a responsibility to follow up on these throughout the month so we would greatly appreciate your support around getting these completed in a timely manner. Ms. Gauthier has attached a checklist to the forms as well. If you have any questions or need support, please contact the main office. If you don't see the forms today, you should on Tuesday.
Parking and Street Safety
A reminder that we greatly appreciate (and need) your support around a few items.
- We have worked with the city on a few occasions, we are unable to get an additional crosswalk installed. However, J-walking and stopping in the middle of the street to pick up or drop off are both hazardous and potentially a choice that could end up with fines. Please also remember that children will follow what the adults model. We want to ensure that students are safe around the street.
- Please note that the bus zone in front of the school is now a NO STOPPING area. Previously it was a no parking zone. Please avoid the bus zone at all times as it is reserved for the school bus.
- The staff parking lot is full and for staff only. It may not always look like it but all parking stalls are assigned on both sides of the parking lot. We also have students and staff who walk through and around that area, and it is not designed for community traffic. Thank you in advance for utilizing street parking when you come to the school.
Open House
Our open house will be on Thursday, September 17 from 5:30-7:00 pm. This is an opportunity to come visit with staff and see your child's new learning environment. We will also look forward to having more extended conversations with families about learning, over the coming months.
CBE Documents
Every year, there are some documents that are shared by all schools as they are standard across the system. Please see the links below for further information:
Welcoming, Caring, Respectful and Safe Learning and Work Environments
AR6005-Student-Code-of-Conduct.pdf
Administrative Regulation (AR) 6006 - Progressive Student Discipline
Beginning and End of Day
We are so happy to see that some families are able to stay around to enjoy the playground or field after school. We are also grateful for the support that we receive from our families to ensure a safe environment. We would like to provide a gentle reminder about a few important items:
- As per city by-law, dogs are not allowed on school property at any time.
- We have asked students who ride bikes, scooters, etc. to school to ensure that they walk their "ride" to the edge or the school yard or well away from others before riding. This helps to reduce the risk of collisions and keeps everyone safe.
Staffing Reminders
This information was shared at the end of last year but as a reminder, we are sharing a brief message from the CBE regarding some adjustments to staffing that we were able to make based on funding changes. All new staff hires have already been announced, and they support students across the school, in a variety of ways. This has resulted in a combination of new staff and the reallocation of current staff (Ms. Blanchard supports complexity around the school and Ms. Mahon is specifically assigned to our grade ¾ group to support class sizes).
This fall, the CBE has hired hundreds of teachers, education assistants and other school staff to support student learning. These positions have been funded by the Government of Alberta with the intention of addressing classroom complexity and class sizes.
We are very pleased to welcome these new staff members to our school community! This additional staff will help ensure students benefit from:
- Increased teacher attention
- Improved classroom learning environments
- Greater support for diverse learning needs
Healthy Hunger
It's back! Haysboro School Council is pleased to continue to offer monthly fun lunches through Healthy Hunger. Meals will be delivered at lunch time to students in grade 1-6 and Kindergarten students who attend Maple Roots. Please register with Healthy Hunger if you haven't already through the link provided: https://healthyhunger.ca/parent-help. Lunches are delivered to the school and served at lunch time. Proceeds from fun lunches are directed back to school improvement, experiences and field trips.
Upcoming fun lunch:
September 22: Boston Pizza (order deadline September 17)
Orders must be made online through Healthy Hunger
School Council
We have an outstanding parent group that comes together every month to discuss how they can support and enhance learning opportunities in the school. They also work very hard to provide events and fundraising opportunities throughout the year. We know that they would welcome additional families at the meetings! Our first meeting will be on September 17, 2026, in the evening. You are welcome to attend in person or online. Additional information and links will be shared closer to the date.
Connecting with Teachers
We have always appreciated the supportive and open relationships that exist between our families and staff. We know that our students will find the most success when we work together to support learning! If you have questions, please connect with the teacher directly outside or via email and they will work to reply to you at their earliest convenience. Contact information can be found here: Our Staff - Haysboro School
We hope that you have all had a great week and we are looking forward to an awesome school year!
Have a wonderful long weekend!
